BS00900A.gif (904 bytes) The annual QRA (2005 and 2006) DxPeditions were to the island of St. Kitts!

Bob, AA1M and Mike, W1USN were QRV on the Caribbean island of St. Kitts from Thursday February 24th until Friday March 4th, 2005; and from March 3rd to March 10th, 2006. For the 2006 trip, Bob's son, Mike and Mike's son, Scott W1SSR joined us.

Conditions were awful in 2005!  But we had a good time doing non Ham things!  Lots of sun, diving, beer, etc. Part of the problem was propagation, poor location (at a resort hotel), and compromise antennas. Our antennas were end-fed Zepps, but we were on the southern side of the island with a dormant volcano between us and the US and Europe.  Pickings were slim except for other Caribbean islands and South America.

In 2006, conditions were much better. We had a house (around 4,000 square feet in size with a pool!) on top of one of the highest points in St. Kitts. A couple of dipoles oriented in different directions made all of the difference. We made many more contacts than we did in 2005. This year it was Bob, my son Scott, and myself. Good times! Here are a couple of views from the QTH:
